Mallow Arts Festival

A Statement on the Mallow Arts Festival 2020:-      (23rd April 2020)

Given the present lockdown and the possibility that it will be extended even further, Mallow Arts Collective have reluctantly decided to cancel the annual Mallow Arts Festival scheduled to take place this year from July 22-26th, 2020.

Chairperson Tadhg Curtis said that the Festival which was to feature over 50 events in the 5 day period required an enormous amount of planning and the inability of the committee to meet and confirm bookings with musicians/artists/performers over the past 5-6 weeks led to this inevitable decision.

“Our festival is also largely dependant on local sponsorship and even if the lockdown were to end in early May, we could not at that time approach small businesses which had been closed for many weeks.”

” However we are conscious of the need to bring life back to the streets of our town and for Mallow people to celebrate the restoration of normality and to thank those who have manned the front line in the fight against Covid 19, so it is our intention to stage a number of events between the end of the lockdown and the end of the year”

Once some clarification is received from the Government, in early May, we would hope to devise a programme of activities, with the support of Cork County Council, Mallow Chamber of Commerce, Mallow Development Partnership and other local groups.
